Referrals

Invite colleagues and earn a discount when they upgrade to a paid plan.

How referral codes work

Every Sessional account is assigned a unique referral code. When someone signs up using your referral link, Sessional records the connection between your accounts. The reward is applied the first time the new user starts a paid Plus or Pro subscription.

Referral codes are permanent. They do not expire and can be used an unlimited number of times.

Where to find your code

Your referral code and sharing link are displayed in the Refer a colleague widget on your dashboard. Your referral link looks like:

Click the copy button next to the link to copy it to your clipboard, ready to share.

How to share your link

You can share your referral link through any channel:

  • Email it to a colleague directly
  • Share it in a WhatsApp or group chat
  • Post it on social media or a professional forum
  • Include it in your email signature

When someone clicks your link, they are taken to the Sessional sign-up page with your referral code pre-filled.

When you earn the reward

The reward is applied when the person you referred upgrades to a paid Plus or Pro subscription. Simply signing up or verifying an email address does not trigger a reward; a paid subscription must actually be started.

  • The person you referred: receives a discount coupon automatically applied to their first paid month at checkout.
  • You (the referrer): receive a discount coupon applied to your next monthly payment on your existing paid subscription.

Both discounts are applied automatically as soon as the referred user completes their first paid checkout. You will see the discount on the next invoice issued by Stripe.

Tip

If you are on the free Basic plan when your referral subscribes, the reward is parked on your account and applied automatically to your first paid invoice when you upgrade to Plus or Pro later.

Tracking your referrals

The referral widget on your dashboard shows your referral activity:

  • Total referred: the number of people who have signed up using your link
  • Rewarded: how many of those have upgraded to a paid plan and triggered a reward
  • Individual status: each referral shows as pending, signed up, or rewarded

Frequently asked questions

Do I get rewarded if someone signs up but never subscribes?
No. The reward is triggered only when the person you referred starts a paid Plus or Pro subscription. If they stay on the free Basic plan, no reward is applied to either account.
What if I am on the free Basic plan when my referral upgrades?
No problem. The discount is parked on your account and is automatically applied to your first paid invoice the next time you upgrade to Plus or Pro. You do not need to be on a paid plan at the moment your referral subscribes.
How long does the discount last?
The discount is applied once, to your next monthly payment after the referral completes checkout. It is a one-off credit, not a recurring discount.
Can I refer someone who already has a Sessional account?
No. Referral codes only work during sign-up. If someone already has an account, they cannot retroactively apply a referral.
Does the discount stack with a promo code?
No. If a promo code is already applied at checkout, the referral discount is skipped in favour of the promo. Only one discount applies per checkout session.
What happens if my referral link is not working?
Make sure you are copying the full URL including the code. If the link still does not work, sign in and copy it again from the referral widget on your dashboard. Contact support if the problem persists.
