Your profile
How organisations see you and how to control what they can see.
Profile layout
Your profile settings are organised into five tabs:
- Personal: name, photo, biography, location, contact details, and your public slug URL
- Professional: specialty, registration number, employment type, pension scheme, organisations worked with, and clinical skills
- Visibility: control which fields are shown on your public profile and set your overall profile visibility (Published, Unlisted, or Private)
- Billing: manage your subscription, payment method, promo codes, and view billing history
- Account: change your email or password, find your referral code, and manage your account
Photo upload
Upload a professional photo from the Personal tab. Requirements:
- Formats: JPEG, PNG, or WebP
- Maximum size: 2 MB
- Recommended: a clear, front-facing headshot with good lighting
If you do not upload a photo, your initial is displayed instead. Organisations are more likely to book locums with a professional photo. It builds trust and recognition.
Public slug URL
Every profile has a unique URL in the format sessional.co.uk/locums/your-slug. Your slug is generated from your name when you sign up, but you can customise it from the Personal tab.
Share this link directly with organisations, include it in emails, or add it to your CV. On mobile, use the "Share profile" button to open your device's share sheet. On desktop, it copies the link to your clipboard.
What is always visible
When your profile is Published or Unlisted, the following fields are always shown to organisations:
- Your name (prefixed with Dr)
- Primary specialty
- General location area
- Biography
- Profile photo (or initial placeholder)
These core fields help organisations understand who you are and what you do. They cannot be individually hidden while your profile is visible.
Toggleable fields
From the Visibility tab, you can show or hide each of these optional fields independently:
- Registration number: some locums prefer organisations verify this directly
- Organisations worked with: hide to prevent poaching or competitive sensitivity
- Employment type: self-employed or limited company
- Pension scheme: personal financial detail some prefer to keep private
- Phone number: hide if you prefer contact via the platform only
- Exact postcode: your general area is always shown, but the full postcode is optional
All optional fields default to hidden. You choose what to share.
Three-tier visibility
Set your overall profile visibility from the Visibility tab:
- Published: your profile appears in the locum directory. Organisations can find you by searching and send booking requests. This is the setting for locums actively seeking work.
- Unlisted: your profile is not in the directory, but anyone with your direct link can view it and send requests. Use this when you want to share your profile with specific organisations only, or when you have enough regular work and do not need directory visibility.
- Private: your profile is completely hidden. The URL shows a "not available" message. No one can view your profile or send requests. Use this during extended breaks or before your profile is ready.
New profiles default to Private. Change your visibility when you are ready to start receiving bookings.
Profile preview card
The Visibility tab includes a live preview card showing exactly how your profile appears to organisations in the directory. As you toggle fields on and off, the preview updates immediately so you can see the result before saving.
Changing your email
To change your login email, go to the Account tab and enter your new email address. Sessional sends a verification link to the new address. Your email is not updated until you click the link. This prevents accidental lockouts and confirms you own the new address.
Note
Changing your password
To change your password, go to the Account tab. You must enter your current password before setting a new one. This ensures that a login session left open on a shared device cannot be used to change your credentials without your knowledge.
Referral code
Your unique referral code is displayed on the Account tab. Share it with colleagues. When they sign up and subscribe using your code, both of you receive a discount on your next billing period.
