Availability calendar

Let organisations know when you are free to work, by full day or half day.

How it works

The availability calendar is a month-view grid where you mark days or half days as available, tentative, or unavailable. Select a period (All day, AM, or PM) and a status, then click any day to apply it. Click again to remove.

Periods

  • All day: marks the entire day
  • AM (morning): marks the morning only (before 13:00)
  • PM (afternoon): marks the afternoon only (13:00 onwards)

You can set different statuses for morning and afternoon on the same day. For example, mark the morning as available and the afternoon as unavailable. Half-day slots appear as coloured dot pairs on the calendar.

Status types

  • Available (green): you are free and willing to take bookings
  • Tentative (amber): you may be available but have not confirmed
  • Unavailable (red): you are not available for work
  • Booked (blue): a confirmed booking is scheduled. This is set automatically and cannot be changed manually.

Note

Booked slots are managed automatically when you confirm or cancel bookings. You do not need to update them yourself.

Block booking

To mark multiple days at once, click Block book dates. Then:

  1. Choose your period (All day, AM, or PM) and status (Available, Tentative, or Unavailable)
  2. Click a start date on the calendar
  3. Click an end date: the range highlights in between
  4. Review the confirmation bar showing the date range and day count
  5. Click Apply to set all dates at once, or Cancel to clear

Block booking skips any dates that are already booked (blue). The range is capped at 90 days. This is useful for marking a full week as available or blocking out a holiday.

Auto-booking

When you accept a booking request or confirm a booking, the availability calendar updates automatically:

  • A morning booking (starting before 13:00, ending by 13:00) marks the morning as booked
  • An afternoon booking (starting at 13:00 or later) marks the afternoon as booked
  • A full-day booking (spanning morning and afternoon) marks the entire day as booked

If a booking is cancelled, the booked slot is automatically released back to available.

Tip

You never need to manually block out confirmed bookings. The calendar stays in sync with your booking list at all times.

Public visibility

You control whether your availability calendar appears on your public profile. Toggle this from your profile settings under "Visibility".

When enabled, organisations viewing your profile can see which days and half days you are available before they send a booking request.

Important

If your calendar is hidden, organisations can still send booking requests. They just will not see your availability beforehand.

Tips

  • Keep your calendar up to date. Organisations are more likely to request locums with clear availability
  • Use half days to show partial availability, e.g. free mornings but unavailable afternoons
  • Use tentative for days where you might be available depending on rate or location
  • Booked slots update automatically. You do not need to manually block out confirmed bookings
  • Your calendar data is included in your iCal feed if you use calendar sync (Basic plan and above)

Frequently asked questions

Can organisations book me directly from the calendar?

No. The calendar shows your availability, but organisations must send a booking request which you then accept or decline. This keeps you in full control.

What happens if I mark a day as unavailable after a booking is confirmed?

Booked slots cannot be overwritten. If you have a confirmed booking on a date, the booked status takes priority. You would need to cancel the booking first before the slot becomes editable.
