User invites and trials
How admin-issued invites work, from the invite email to the trial ending.
Tip
Admins issue invites from Admin › Invites. Each invite carries a Plus trial (default 3 months, adjustable 1 to 12) and optionally a complimentary flag that disables the auto-downgrade at the end.
What happens when you receive an invite
The invite email contains a one-click link. Open it, set a password, agree to the Terms and Privacy Policy, and you are signed in. No credit card is needed; the Plus trial is applied automatically. Your email is considered verified because you clicked the invite link from the inbox itself.
Trial length and complimentary access
- Plus trial (default): 3 months of the full Plus plan, no card required. 3 days before the trial ends, we email you a heads-up. At the end, your account reverts to Basic (free) unless you have upgraded.
- Complimentary access: the admin can flag the invite as complimentary. No trial countdown, no auto-downgrade. The account keeps Plus indefinitely until the admin removes the flag.
Redeeming your invite
Your invite link expires after 30 days. After that:
- The link shows "This invitation has expired." Ask the admin to send a fresh invite.
- Clicking a used link shows "This invitation has already been used. Sign in instead." Use the normal sign-in page.
- Admins can revoke pending invites from their Invites page; a revoked link shows a clear "This invitation has been cancelled" message.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a credit card to redeem an invitation?
No. The trial is applied without any payment method. When the trial ends we email you in advance, and your account quietly reverts to the free Basic tier if you do not upgrade. No charge is ever made without your consent.
Can I upgrade during the trial?
Yes. Open the billing tab in your dashboard and subscribe to Plus (or Pro) at the standard prices. The trial ends immediately and normal billing starts.
What happens to my data if I do nothing at the end of the trial?
Nothing is lost. Your account moves to the free Basic tier: unlimited shift tracking, pay-check, workplace signed-URL access, 3 free invoices per month, public profile, and the in-app inbox. Plus-only features (unlimited invoicing, auto-chasers, pension forms, NMC revalidation, tax reserve, document store, PocketSmith) become read-only prompts until you upgrade.
What is the complimentary flag?
It is an admin-only flag on your invite that tells Sessional to keep you on Plus indefinitely, without billing. It is used for partner programmes, legal-mandated access, or compassionate cases. The admin who granted it can remove it at any time.
I did not receive the invite email. What now?
Check spam. If the email is not there, ask the admin to revoke the pending invite and send a new one. Invite tokens are single-use and 30-day-limited for security.
